Zinc for Cold and Flu Season

There has definitely been a spike in the last few weeks of all sorts of nasty bugs going around. Today we want to share a little knowledge about the mineral zinc and how it can become your ally in the fight against these nasty bugs during cold and flu season. Our bodies rely on zinc to support immune function, cellular activities and more than 300 enzymatic functions. Zinc also combats inflammation in the body.  It’s essential for healthy hormone and immune development, as well as human growth. This is why it is especially important for pregnant women, babies and children. It is essential for cognitive development and regulates hormones such as leptin and cortisol. As important as it is, around 2 billion people worldwide are deficient primarily due to inadequate nutrition. Another factor is high sugar and carbohydrate consumption. When the body has an unhealthy blood sugar balance, the body cannot properly absorb zinc. For people suffering from leaky gut syndrome the inability to absorb zinc is common. Zinc deficiency can cause a host of problems in the body, including. . .
  • Lowered immunity
  • Low energy/insomnia
  • Skin rashes/eczema
  • Loss of libido
  • Poor memory
  • Abnormal hair loss
  • Spots on fingernails
  • Frequent colds or flu
Zinc is known to be helpful in boosting the immune system to prevent catching colds and also in shortening the duration of a cold. Studies have shown that taking zinc within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms can shorten the length of a cold by several days. A significant amount of colds are caused by rhinovirus which thrives in the nasal passages and throat and multiplies quickly. It has been found to be effective at preventing the rhinovirus from multiplying and may stop it from lodging in the mucus membranes of the upper respiratory system. Our clinical strength hydration supplement, re:iimmune, addresses the core reasons people struggle to recover from an illness: dehydration and malnutrion. Good hydration is critical when recovering from any type of illness. In order to properly fight against all these nasty germs we need our immune systems at the top of their game. Since 70% of our immunity is in our digestive tract we’ve included a prebiotic and probiotics in re:iimmune to support the intestinal immune system. Balancing electrolytes, L-glutamine for tissue repair and zinc are all included to get you better, better!

Investigated: Inflammation and the Benefits of Ginger and Zinc

twenty20_ig-465450059976468957_23746337 Inflammation in and of itself is actually a natural and protective response by the body. White blood cells and the substances they produce help to fight against infection from bacteria and viruses. Unfortunately, there are instances when this natural defense system goes out of whack or in cases such as arthritis and other autoimmune diseases, inflammation is occurring even though there’s no bacterial or viral infection to fight against. Chronic inflammation is painful and it is extremely damaging to our bodies. Numerous studies are revealing that it is linked to diseases such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer. re:iimmune was created with an understanding that dehydration exacerbates inflammation in the body. Our solution provides Clinical Strength Hydration® with a rich package of health-supporting ingredients including probiotics, prebiotic, electrolytes, L-Glutatmine, zinc and ginger. After testing re:iimmune’s capabilities, a recent study published by the Journal of Nutrition and Health shared that testing indicated that “five inflammatory markers were significantly altered as a result of incubation with the re:iimmune product.” Ginger and zinc were added to our formula for a variety of reasons. Ginger is effective against nausea and zinc is known to help promote immunity. In addition, both ginger and zinc have anti-inflammatory qualities! Ginger contains phtytonutrients called gingerols known for their potency in reducing inflammation, muscular pain and swelling. The Arthritis Foundation notes in their article “Health Benefits of Ginger for Arthritis” that a University of Miami study proposes that “ginger extract could one day be a substitute to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The study compared the effects of a highly concentrated ginger extract to placebo in 247 patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. The ginger reduced pain and stiffness in knee joints by 40 percent over the placebo.” A large percentage of the population is deficient in zinc, including an estimated 40% of older adults, which compromises our ability to fight off common infections. Research out of Ohio State University found that zinc “gently taps the breaks” on an over-response of the immune system and that  “a protein lures zinc into key cells that are first-responders against infection. The zinc then interacts with a process that is vital to the fight against infection and by doing so helps balance the immune response.” This process prevents excess and damaging inflammation in the body.

Natural Remedies in the Fight Against Fall Allergies

screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-10-47-01-am Last time, we talked about understanding the main culprits behind fall allergies and different ways to prevent them. Today we’ve got some suggestions of natural helpers to relieve your symptoms! Raw Local Honey Not only is it yummy but it also relieves symptoms of seasonal allergies as it contains the local pollen that is causing those allergies. Adding a couple of teaspoons into your day each day helps you to build up a tolerance. It’s a good idea to do this year round. Pineapple Sweet and juicy relief! Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain which helps to reduce swelling in the nose and sinuses. Apple Cider Vinegar Well known for giving your immune system a boost, it also helps in breaking up mucus and supports lymphatic drainage. When you are feeling that runny nose coming on, try mixing one tablespoon each of Apple Cider Vinegar, fresh lemon juice and local honey mixed with water to get some relief. How Can re:iimmune help? As we discussed in the last post, staying hydrated is one of the most important steps to take in preventing and relieving symptoms of fall allergies. You want to flush all that nastiness out of your system! Our isotonic Clinical Strength Hydration® formula also contains zinc, which helps adrenal fatigue caused by stress. Stress worsens the symptoms of both seasonal allergies and the common cold. Other Supplements and Essential Oils Other supplements to add into your routine include Spirulina, Stinging Nettle and Quercetin, all of which help stop the release of histamines. Some folks find relief by using a combination of different essential oils. Remember that essential oils should typically not be applied directly to the skin. Instead, they should be added to a carrier oil such as jojoba, sweet almond or grapeseed oil to avoid irritation. Lavender, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus and tea tree essential oils have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities to aid in your allergy relief. One common way to get their benefits is by adding a few undiluted drops to your bath or shower to breathe in as you wash that pollen away! Check out essentialoilbenefits.com for more ideas and essential oil recipes.

The Scoop on Zinc

scoop

But Wait, There's More...

Zinc isn't normally the first thing to pop in your head when you head to the vitamin section for an immune boost, but Zinc is in fact the secret gem of supplements. If you were to ask the average person what supplement they would think of first in terms of boosting ones immune system, chances are they would answer: Vitamin C.

Vitamins are key components to boosting your immune system, but there are other highly effective, and complex supplements that deserve a little more recognition. Zinc is one of these important supplements that is technically considered an “essential trace element” and is often thought of as a “natural cold remedy”, yet, Zinc has so much more to offer your body’s health and well-being than we commonly consider and that is exactly why we specifically chose it to join the re:iimmune® formula.
According to researchers at the Department of Dermatology at the University of California,

zinc plays an essential role in numerous biochemical pathways: organ systems, including the integumentary, gastrointestinal, central nervous system, immune, skeletal, and reproductive systems… Zinc deficiency results in dysfunction of both humoral and cell-mediated immunity and increases the susceptibility to infection. In other words; Zinc is good for your whole body! Not only does it boost your immune system, it is in fact crucially essential to your body’s immune response, hormonal function, nervous system, energy levels, and may lower your metabolism if your zinc levels drop below a healthy marker. Some symptoms that you may experience if you are in fact zinc deficient include:

  • Poor concentration or memory
  • Hormonal complications
  • Nerve dysfunction
  • Digestive issues, including diarrhea
  • A slower healing process when wounded
  • Abnormal hair loss

Zinc is more than simply a slight boost to your body’s immune function, but it is an essential nutrient that your body requires on a regular basis. When we mention zinc as a component to re:iimmune’s Hydrobiotic™ formula, we often title it simply as an extra immunity boost. In actuality it was chosen carefully for its smorgasbord of vital health components. When re:iimmune was created, the time was taken to hand pick each ingredient, analyze it’s potential to make people better, and chosen for the highest quality potential. So, the next time you’re feeling under the weather and you reach for your own glass of re:iimmune, you can feel confidence in the fact that every single piece of this recovery puzzle was put together to specifically help you get better, better™!

Shake it Off!

Why Wednesday

lezley_Dhonau"After a 4 month run of colds, flu, stomach ache and sickness- I felt unable to shake off the last of it each time to be able to fully recover. I then got hit with oral thrush which really told me my guts were not in a good way and I suspected I was chronically dehydrated too. With just the first few mouthfuls of re:iimmune I feel uplifted and more energized. It's like drinking a fresh coconut...you know it is good - it feels like it is instantly boosting your health!  I changed the food I eat to clean out my system, but the re:iimmune has been a key part of recovering fully and resetting my gut to a healthier state, and no cramping. I am passionate about only putting natural foods in my body and re:iimmune fits this need for me. It is now a firm addition to my medical kit." -L. Dhonau
Those first few hints of a cold or flu normally send you running for the medicine cabinet with determination. You tell yourself "I will not let this slow me down!" If you begin to fight it early on, you just might be fortunate enough to kick the infection before it's got you stuck to your bed for a week or so. Although, when an infection does take up roots, it may send you on a downward spiral that can last weeks, or months before you fully recover. When you eventually do recover, you are often left with a compromised immune system, and the after effects that most common symptom relievers leave behind. Chronic illness patients can attest to the fact that feeling ill for long periods of time can feel discouraging, but don't give up. After you've conquered an illness, it's important to remember that your immune system has taken a hit and will be left more vulnerable to further infection even after your symptoms have cleared up.
The illness recovery formula in re:iimmune® contains just what your body needs in order to shake off an infection, or infections. Hydration is a key component to your body's ability to create healthy cells and a strong immune system. Often times, when you're experiencing cold and flu symptoms, drinking fluids is easier said than done, and your hydration levels drop as a result. The ginger root in re:iimmune® helps to soothe an upset stomach as the Clinical Strength Hydration® Formula, and multi strain pre and probiotic blend, get to balancing out your body's hydration and intestinal immune support needs. Since re:iimmune® is sugar free, and doesn't contain toxic coloring agents, your body won't have to spend it's energy figuring out what to protect itself against and what to use to heal itself. Since nearly 70% of your body's immune system is located in  your intestines, our intestinal immune support formula boosts the very core of your immune system while helping you get back up on your feet.
Take a tip from our friend in the U.K.- keep re:iimmune® as a firm addition to your medical kit, and get better, better™!

You Don’t Have to be Sick to re:iimmune

Why Wednesday

"FortunatPaula_WhyWednesdayely, we haven’t had chemo, radiation, or an especially severe case of bad “gut health.”  However, it is possible that we represent a large percentage of those who use re:iimmune on a daily, weekly or bi-weekly basis for our general health and comfort.  I first became aware of the product about two years ago when my husband had a rather long and unexplained problem with his tummy.  He drank one dose a day for about a week and just that quickly he felt so much better.  We have experienced the usual upsets typical of 90 and 80 year olds, but since discovering re:iimmune the difference is that we know what to do about it now."  -Paula Ahlborn

Here at Make People Better headquarters, we often hear the question: "do I have to be sick to drink re:iimmune®?" Of course not! The truth is, I don't know a single person who wouldn't benefit from Clinical Strength Hydration® and Intestinal Immune support. Drinking re:iimmune® on a regular basis is a wonderful way to build up your immune system, and feel better, better™ . The Zinc and 275mg of ginger root in re:iimmune® give your body an extra immune boost, and also aid in reducing upset digestive patterns, and soothing nausea. Ginger alone packs a powerful punch in conjunction with generalized health, you can read more about that here.

We regularly hear from our faithful customers and friends that drinking re:iimmune® every single day has made a definite improvement on their quality of life, and for numerous reasons. Moment of truth: I personally live, eat, and breathe this stuff, but even I don't remember to drink it every single day, yet, as soon as I start to feel sluggish or physically off, I crave it immediately! Moral of the story is that your health journey is yours, and it will be unique for each individual. As a health conscious person, you're surely going to attempt to drink enough water in a day, eat foods that promote a healthy digestive pattern, and possibly even supplement with a probiotic formula on occasion. The beauty of re:iimmune® is that it's truly the whole package in one tiny packet. For the days when you haven't had time to sit down (much less drink an adequate amount of water), for the days that you cave and  wind up eating that one thing you know your body will not thank you for later, for the days that you just want to lay your head down on your desk and call it quits, re:iimmune® just might be the pick up you need! As for Paula and I, we sure think so. Until next Wednesday, Get better, better™!

Avoid The Travel Bug

Why Wednesday

"My husband BlBekah_Abiatti2ake and I were on our honeymoon in Mexico when re:iimmune saved us. We woke up early to head back to Missouri, and we both felt a little off but not sick. We didn't think much of it since we had just spent a week in Mexico, and were eating different foods than our bodies were use to. When we arrived at the Atlanta airport for our layover, we attempted to get something to eat. We couldn't stomach anything! Luckily I had two re:iimmune packets left! It was the only thing we could keep down and it completely helped soothe our stomachs. I was so worried our last plane home was going to be miserable (or that we wouldn't be able to get on the plane) but re:iimmune got us through it! Now, any time my stomach is upset or my body is just feeling down, I always drink re:iimmune!" -Bekah

It's that time of year again! Sand, sun, cruises, lake weekends, hiking trips and airline flights taking you to your favorite destinations. Most of us look Bekah_Abiattiforward to longer days, warmer weather, family vacations and romantic honeymoon getaways. If you're anything like me (or like our organized teacher friend, Bekah) you start making your packing list a week before it's time to hit the road. You pack and repack, second guess your apparel decisions a hundred times, and then finally settle into something comfy and set off for paradise. Through crowded airports, new environments, disrupted sleep patterns, and unfamiliar foods- your body doesn't always get the same relief you might feel on vacation. The last thing you want to happen when you're far from home is to deal with the effects of a run down immune system.

No one wants to get up and climb over 3 people, 42 times in one flight, just to use a tiny, uncomfortable airplane commode, or pull off the road at every rest stop in sight when you're hurrying to your awaited location. We normally wind up drinking less fluids as a result, causing our bodies hydration levels to plummet and in turn, your body takes step one towards an upset immune function. The next time you start your packing list, stick re:iimmune® at the very top. With it's special formulation of Clinical Strength Hydration® you will be able to maintain optimal hydration levels without running to the restroom every 20 minutes. With it's blend of pre and probiotics, re:iimmune® fights hard against all the upsets traveling  introduces to your digestive system by reintroducing the good bacteria your stomach needs to remain healthy. When you drink a packet of re:iimmune®, you also receive a generous dose of ginger, which is known for aiding in digestion and soothing nausea- as well as a helping of zinc to give you're immune system an extra "oomph". Don't let anything get in the way of your vacation this summer including the travel bug, pack re:iimmune and get better, better!
