Melinda Lund, Dietitian

It’s so wonderful to hear from the doctors, nurses and dietitians like Melinda who are witnessing the benefits of re:iimmune in their patients. The creation of our product was born from a desire to help folks who are recovering from a variety of illnesses to get better in a better and more convenient way. From l-glutamine to repair intestinal tissue, probiotics to help feed healthy gut bacteria to ginger to ease the discomfort of nausea all in one product, we’re proud to hear that re:iimmune is helping folks on the road to recovery!

“Professionally I’d like to focus on our oncology population. Even though I have recommended this product to other patients (including pre/post bariatric surgery), it’s our oncology patients I feel that are some of our most vulnerable.  The use of this product just within that group is multi-fold. We have the patients who are going through chemo treatment that have higher than usual ER/UC utilization for dehydration after treatment (days 2-4 post chemo) because of the vomiting and/or lack of intake. Then, we have that group of patients who lose significant amount of weight or have head and neck cancer that, with treatment, are no longer to eat by mouth. In both cases, a tube feeding of some sort is warranted and so another surgery and the risks of surgery to go along with it.

re:iimmune is a product that is fantastic to recommend in all of these scenarios.  Both pre-surgery on through post-surgery recovery and again just prior to and through post chemo treatment.  The bonus ingredient from my perspective is the ginger!  For our oncology patients that experience extreme nausea, I always recommend ginger in some form to them. This being in the re:iimmune, to me, makes so much sense and is the perfect place to “house it”.  The probiotics already added in are also very important to me for the patients.  Chemo/radiation treatment are very hard on the gut balance, and I typically was recommending a probiotic supplement for those patients all of the time already.  Again, having this already in the formula is amazing.  One drink, everything that they need.  Many of them can be overwhelmed with all of the medications they are asked to take during treatment, so to help them limit added pills to swallow makes life much easier for them…and in drinkable form.

I’ve also had this product on hand to recommend to our ALS patients – again, many with declining oral intake, weight loss, PEG tube surgeries…an excellent supplement for them! As I mentioned, we have such a vast variety of patient populations here where I can see re:iimmune being beneficial…so I really am a firm believer in this product and it’s quality!”

If you have been regularly using our product which was created to deliver clinical strength hydration, provide beneficial gut bacteria and decrease inflammation in the gut, we want to hear your story! Here are some ideas of what to include. . .

  • Give us a little background on yourself and how did you come across re:iimmune? What issues were you aiming to address? Were you recovering from an illness, suffering from a chronic condition or adding it to your wellness routine to aid in staying healthy?

  • What benefits have you noticed by regularly consuming re:iimmune?

American consumers are literally flooded with gimmicky and expensive variations on H2O: concoctions of sugar, artificial flavors and unsubstantiated ingredients that can themselves pose a challenge to our health. At the same time, poor hydration and insufficient intestinal microflora can endanger patient recovery and lead to hospital readmissions and poor outcomes. Dr. Kerri Miller developed re:iimmune to address those issues and to help people get better, better! A Johns Hopkins and Harvard educated nurse practitioner, Dr. Miller developed a simple solution; make the water you drink more efficient during illness recovery!

With her oral Hydrobiotic technology, she created a solution that gives water more power to hydrate while supercharging the body’s natural defense system.

We want to hear from you and share your story to encourage others to give re:iimmune a try and help more people who are on the road to recovery or looking to maintain a healthy gut and stay properly hydrated. If you would like to help us get the word out, please email your testimonial to info@makepeoplebetter.com. As inspiration we’ve included a couple of testimonial videos below!

Natural Cold Remedies

Fighting a nasty cold? An average of 2-3 times a year, most adults suffer through the effects of the common cold including sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, coughing, headaches and body aches. There is no cure for the common cold. Over-the-counter medicines mask symptoms but often have side effects people would like to avoid. Here are some natural cold remedies to lessen the misery and support your recovery!

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

No surprise to hear us shouting this from the rooftops. In any recovery, staying hydrated is essential. When dealing with a cold, drinking plenty of water helps to prevent respiratory secretions from getting thick and making it difficult to expel. If plain old water is hard to get down, it’s helps to add lemon which is high in Vitamin C and assists in loosening up stuffiness and congestion. Hot tea is also soothing for a sore throat, stuffy nose and congestion and adding honey to it will help with coughs. Just be sure to reach for the decaf. Caffeine is dehydrating, making caffeinated teas, coffee and soda the last thing your body needs to recover. Also, as we’ve discussed in previous posts, stay away from sugar loaded sports drinks. If you are looking to replenish electrolytes, re:iimmune’s hydrobiotic formula was created to address poor hydration, a weakened immune system and intestinal inflammation which affects immunity. re:iimmune provides isotonic, clinical strength hydration along with a prebiotic, probiotics, electrolytes, L-Glutamine, Zinc and Ginger and it’s sugar free!

Simple Soothers

When you are suffering from a cold, it’s all about finding ways to soothe the symptoms to make yourself more comfortable. We mentioned adding some honey into your tea above and you may even want to ingest a tablespoon or two all on it’s own if one of the symptoms you are struggling with is a nasty cough. Honey has been shown to be as or even more effective at controlling and soothing coughs than over the counter cough medicines.

When we’re sick, our nasal passages go into overdrive, swelling up and producing more mucus to try to drive the virus out. An easy and effective way to calm them down is using a saline spray which helps to loosen mucus and moisturize the nasal passages. If all that mucus is irritating your throat, a saltwater gargle can also provide relief.

Another irritating symptom? The sore nose that inevitably comes from blowing it so much. Using a little dab of coconut oil will moisturize your nose and help prevent it from getting raw and sore.

We’ve included some links to other great natural cold remedies, including essential oils that bring relief and why chicken soup really might deserve it’s cold remedy reputation. Hope you’re feeling better soon!

Hydration: Hypertonic, Hypotonic, Isotonic

twenty20_de30ff1c-282e-4a27-83b8-7babf1a74abf

Hydration for optimum health should be one of our top priorities every day. When recovering from illness, fighting dehydration can prove difficult and too often people turn to sports drinks to supplement. The problem with this is that sports drinks are not well suited for illness recovery. Today we aim to explain different types of hydration for you to better understand what works for your system and what does not.

When talking about hydration, different solutions have differing potency in their ability to draw hydration into the cells of our body. Hypertonic drinks are what we typically refer to as sports drinks. These solutions have a higher concentration of salt and sugar than the human body and are used by athletes to supplement carbohydrate intake and up muscle glycogen stores. During long distance events, they supplement to meet high energy demands but are not doing much in the way of actual hydration. In fact, it’s recommended that they be used in conjunction with Isotonic drinks (more on that in a bit) to help replace lost fluids.

Hypotonic drinks are also used by athletes who require fluid without a carbohydrate boost, like gymnasts, to quickly replace fluids lost by sweating. They contain a lower concentration of salt and sugar than the human body. However, neither of these types of solutions are going to be helpful for someone who is recovering from illness or someone who wants to get a hydration boost without all of the heavily refined, highly processed sugars.

An Isotonic solution has the same concentrations of sugars and salt found in the human body and for anyone who is in a state of dehydration or whose health is compromised, it is the ideal partner to restore proper levels of hydration. Water follows sodium. The concentration of sodium inside plasma has to be held to within close limits (132-152 mmol/l) for proper functioning of the body and normally, this sodium concentration is controlled by the kidneys. However, in a state of dehydration, water is conserved by not urinating and the sodium regulation cannot work effectively. In a stressed state, such as dehydration, the cells of the intestines are impaired and sodium cannot be effectively absorbed. re:iimmune® is an isotonic clinical strength hydration formula created to help treat mild-moderate dehydration. If you are battling dehydration while recovering from an illness, we hope you’ll set aside the sports drinks and give re:iimmune a try!

Cold or Flu? Tips to Tell and Ways to Deal

cold-and-flu-prevention-clipart-1

Got the sniffly, sneezy blues? First things first, you gotta know your enemy! In the beginning stages of sickness you might be wondering if what you are dealing with is a cold or flu. Today we are sharing some helpful ways to figure out which monster you are battling and common myths to dispel.

The symptoms are very similar but one of the first ways to tell if you are dealing with a cold or flu is how quickly it comes on. A sudden onset of symptoms such as respiratory issues, fever, chills, aches and intense tiredness typically point to the flu. If what you are dealing with is a stuffy nose and sore throat, with none of the other symptoms just described, then it’s a common cold. Vomiting is a sign of neither, but instead is a sign of a stomach bug. Flu is a respiratory illness, not a digestive illness. It’s really important to figure out what you are dealing with because if it is the flu then there are prescription antiviral medications specifically formulated to lessen the symptoms and duration. However, those medications are most effective if taken within the first 48 hours of the onset of symptoms.

Now to dispel some of those myths floating around there about the cold and flu. . .

“Feed a cold, starve a fever”

Nope. Your cold is not gonna budge just because you are filling up the tank. And a fever doesn’t lessen just because your tummy is grumbling. In any case, you need to eat healthy to give your body the essential nutrients it needs to repair itself. Not a myth? Chicken soup really is good for a cold and at providing relief from your symptoms.

“You need antibiotics”

Wrong. A cold or flu are both caused by viruses. Antibiotics only work on bacterial infections. Taking antibiotics when you don’t really need them lessens their effectiveness when you really do. So unless a doctor has diagnosed you with a bacterial infection, don’t go this route.

“Cold weather is to blame. Bundle up or you’ll get sick”

Negative. As just mentioned, colds and the flu are viruses spread person to person. However, those roller coaster temperatures we experience in the fall can play havoc with your sinuses. Just don’t go blaming the weather for your cold or flu.

“You need to sweat it out”

Absolutely not! Dehydration can be dangerous and the exact opposite is what you need. Staying hydrated is essential to recover from illness. Our re:iimmune Hydrobiotic Recovery Formula has balancing electrolytes to help provide maximum rehydration.

Get Well, Make Well – re:iimmune®

“Pure water is the world’s first and foremost medicine.” – Slovakian Proverb

Water is the source of life. But what if you aren’t lucky enough to live in a country that has developed sanitation and easy access to clean sources of that gift of life? In much of the world, water then turns from being “medicine” and instead becomes the infecting agent of terrible illness and death. As reported by the World Health Organization, each year gastrointestinal diseases kill 2.2 million people globally, primarily in developing countries where citizens lack access to clean drinking water. Contaminated water spreads malaria, dysentery, cholera and a host of other horrors which bring on diarrhea and weaken the body’s immune system. This year, a half million children under the age of five will die from dehydration and millions more suffer from poor intestinal health and malnutrition.

Our goal has always been to save lives by changing these awful statistics and we know you want to help! We understand that the weight of the world’s problems often leave folks feeling helpless and at loss for how to make a difference. Sometimes it is the simplest of actions that make the biggest impact, and our Get Well, Make Well campaign enables our customers to take part in changing and saving lives around the world. It’s pretty simple; For every box of re:iimmune purchased, a serving is donated to relief organizations working to improve the health of underserved populations. Your purchase of re:immune helps you to “get well” and simultaneously help “make well” the life of another.

We are proud to join great organizations like TOMS Shoes and to partner with humanitarian organization Convoy of Hope to distribute doses of re:iimmune to developing countries. To date, 80,000 doses have been donated and with your continued support we can make that number skyrocket!

How L-Glutamine Helps Heal Your Gut

But Wait, There’s More…

I’ve been told befcell_questionmarkore, “If you don’t recognize the ingredient, it’s probably not good for you!” -well here I am to prove this concept wrong. Rather than writing off ingredient’s with big, foreign, or funny sounding names, it’s time to start learning some new words and what they mean in relation to your body. It’s always important to do your own research anytime you begin taking a new supplement or medicine so that you’re aware of what you’re putting into your body, and WHY. We’re here to tell you about one of our favorite commonly unrecognized words -L-Glutamine.

WHAT is L-Glutamine? L-Glutamine is 1 of 20 amino acids, as most amino acids are known for aiding specifically in the restoration and growth of muscle tissue, L-Glutamine is uniquely known for it’s use as fuel for the cells in your gut lining. The cells in your intestinal wall are able to absorb it directly and utilize it more quickly than any other amino acid. L-Glutamine supports the lining of your intestinal wall by aiding in the production of healthy intestinal mucus and Secretary Immunoglobulin Type A (SIgA) as well as tightening the openings in your intestinal wwater.splashall itself.

Bonus: Not only is L-Glutamine the superhero of gut restoration with it’s powerful tissue repair ability, but it also acts as a co-transporter in our Clinical Strength Hydration formula. L-Glutamine works alongside sodium to pull hydration directly into your cells, allowing for rapid hydration to occur. Basically, L-Glutamine gets a trophy for MVP by pulling together all of our hydration and gut health efforts into one complete package.

WHY is L-Glutamine in re:iimmune®? Obviously the definition, description and benefits of L-Glutamine speak for themselves, but the reason it was chosen to be a part of re:iimmune®’s recovery formula is because it works directly inline with the very mission and purpose of re:iimmune® itself. When re:iimmune® was first created by Dr. Miller, it was created with the concept of illness recovery in mind. The epicenter of our immune system lays within our digestive tract, just as most of our ailments also stem from the state of our guts. With an amino acid that is able to go in and build up damaged intestinal tissue and tighten the walls of our body’s immune system, we have a fighting shot at warding off illness and recovering more efficiently.

cell_fight

As if the power of digestive specific cell repair wasn’t already enough incentive to bring L-Glutamine into the mix, it’s ability to aid in the hydration process is another major bonus to it’s resume. Hydration is obviously a key component to recovering from illness and staying well. Hydration changes the way we feel, think, and act. It has the power to strengthen your immune system, help you sleep more soundly, lower cholesterol, think more clearly, and even brighten dull skin. When the formula for re:iimmune® was first set into motion, Dr. Miller was determined to find an alternative to sugary sports drinks and expensive and unnecessary hospital visits as a means to keep her patients hydrated. L-Glutamine is a key ingredient which helps bring our hydration formula to a clinical standard while also allowing it to remain sugar free.

Whether L-Glutamine is a new word to you, or you’ve been well versed in it’s properties for years, it’s important to us that we explain why we use what we do, because each ingredient was hand picked to help you get better, better™!

Sports Drinks are for Sports

Sports drinks, re:iimmune for illness recoverySports drinks are for sports, and re:iimmune® is the first oral hydration product created specifically for illness recovery. We could end this discussion right here, but let’s discuss WHY sports drinks shouldn’t be suggested to a person who is recovering from any type of illness. The average sports drink on the market is loaded with sugar, around 14 grams a serving in most cases, and not just table sugar- but highly processed, heavily refined sucrose syrups that are difficult for your body to process. Sugar alone weakens your immune system. Studies have shown that sugar causes a fifty percent drop in the ability of white blood cells to engulf harmful bacteria, not to mention the toll processed sugars take on your digestive system.

Sports drinks have their place, if you are a runner extra sugar turns into fuel and spikes your energy levels, but when you’re body is facing trauma, or an illness, re:iimmune® fills in the gap where sports drinks are lacking. When referring to hydration, a healthcare provider would reference a thing called osmolality to define the potency of a solutions ability to draw hydration into cells. Many sports drinks on the market would be referred to as “hypertonic osmolality”, there’s a lot of big words used to explain this term, but simply put, hypertonic would not be a healthy way for your cells to receive hydration on a daily basis. re:iimmune® is considered an “isotonic osmolality” (the same type of osmolality as the human body) which is also the most natural way for your body to receive hydration. This makes re:iimmune® safe to use on a daily basis.

The next time you or someone you care for is beginning a recovery journey, whether it be from the common flu, or a more severe illness, set down the sugary sports drink that’s loaded with artificial ingredients, and pick up the hydration pack that was created specifically for illness recovery. While the sugar and added chemicals in your favorite sports drink wreak havoc on your intestinal track, re:iimmune® works to rebuild your intestinal well being with its multi strain pre and probiotic blend that builds up the good bacteria in your intestines. The Clinical Strength Hydration® formula in re:iimmune® is 100% sugar free making it diabetic friendly and the perfect way to get better, better™ at home!

Shake it Off!

Why Wednesday

lezley_Dhonau“After a 4 month run of colds, flu, stomach ache and sickness- I felt unable to shake off the last of it each time to be able to fully recover. I then got hit with oral thrush which really told me my guts were not in a good way and I suspected I was chronically dehydrated too. With just the first few mouthfuls of re:iimmune I feel uplifted and more energized. It’s like drinking a fresh coconut…you know it is good – it feels like it is instantly boosting your health!  I changed the food I eat to clean out my system, but the re:iimmune has been a key part of recovering fully and resetting my gut to a healthier state, and no cramping. I am passionate about only putting natural foods in my body and re:iimmune fits this need for me. It is now a firm addition to my medical kit.” -L. Dhonau
Those first few hints of a cold or flu normally send you running for the medicine cabinet with determination. You tell yourself “I will not let this slow me down!” If you begin to fight it early on, you just might be fortunate enough to kick the infection before it’s got you stuck to your bed for a week or so. Although, when an infection does take up roots, it may send you on a downward spiral that can last weeks, or months before you fully recover. When you eventually do recover, you are often left with a compromised immune system, and the after effects that most common symptom relievers leave behind. Chronic illness patients can attest to the fact that feeling ill for long periods of time can feel discouraging, but don’t give up. After you’ve conquered an illness, it’s important to remember that your immune system has taken a hit and will be left more vulnerable to further infection even after your symptoms have cleared up.
The illness recovery formula in re:iimmune® contains just what your body needs in order to shake off an infection, or infections. Hydration is a key component to your body’s ability to create healthy cells and a strong immune system. Often times, when you’re experiencing cold and flu symptoms, drinking fluids is easier said than done, and your hydration levels drop as a result. The ginger root in re:iimmune® helps to soothe an upset stomach as the Clinical Strength Hydration® Formula, and multi strain pre and probiotic blend, get to balancing out your body’s hydration and intestinal immune support needs. Since re:iimmune® is sugar free, and doesn’t contain toxic coloring agents, your body won’t have to spend it’s energy figuring out what to protect itself against and what to use to heal itself. Since nearly 70% of your body’s immune system is located in  your intestines, our intestinal immune support formula boosts the very core of your immune system while helping you get back up on your feet.
Take a tip from our friend in the U.K.- keep re:iimmune® as a firm addition to your medical kit, and get better, better™!
