Organic Agave Tequiliana – The source of the prebiotic fructan found in re:immune

screen-shot-2016-10-26-at-2-03-04-pm

We’re sure you are already familiar with the main byproduct of the agave tequiliana plant, as tequila is one of the most popular components of a tasty adult beverage! But this beautiful blue tinged member of the succulent family is also the source of the prebiotic fructan we here at re:iimmune specifically chose to support our diabetic friendly, Clinical Strength Hydration™ supplement.

The fructan is a soluble fiber extracted from the agave plant through a drying process. Found in a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and other plants, this starchy substance is not digested or absorbed in the stomach. It passes through the small intestine and ferments in the large intestine, helping to increase calcium absorption while promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestines. The fructan helps to improve bowel function, prevents constipation and decreases the the body’s ability to make certain types of fats.

The prebiotic is extracted from organic agave grown in Jalisco, Mexico. A mature blue agave grows to about 6 to 8 feet tall in the course of 5 to 7 years. At this point the carbohydrates stored in the plant’s core (called a pina as it resembles a pineapple after the leaves are trimmed away) are at their peak. Farmers use a simple razor sharp blade to harvest the agave and process it into the sweetener through thermal hydrolysis, heating it at various temperatures.

When re:iimmune was created, each ingredient was carefully considered and scrutinized for its overall benefit. We absolutely wanted to avoid sugar, sucralose and dextrose. We understand the negative impact these can have on anyone’s system but especially those who are recovering from illness, having digestive problems or are struggling with diabetes. The agave fructan is a type of fructose also found in foods such as dates, molasses, raisins, apples and honey. It has a zero glycemic index making it diabetic friendly and because of this and the prebiotic benefits mentioned above, it became part of our hydration formula created to help people get better, better!

Fighting Norovirus- Hydrobiotic Recovery Formula

fight_back_2.0_with watermark

Travel season, cruise excursions, or even large conference type settings like we have recently heard about in the news, are all the perfect breeding grounds for the dreaded norovirus. Although cruises and resort destinations have become infamous for their reputation of remaining plagued by the norovirus, they aren’t the only place this nasty bug likes to lurk. Norovirus is easily spread where there are a large amount of people in one place for any extended amount of time. For example, it is common to hear of outbreaks in schools, healthcare facilities, military camps, and prisons. Not only is norovirus spread from person to person, but it is also often spread through contaminated food in restaurants and catered event type settings.

Over the last few years, we’ve heard stories in the media about an influx of norovirus on cruise vacations and resort destinations – mostly due to large numbers of people residing in close proximity, traveling to foreign waters, eating and drinking new foods, and exposing themselves to unfamiliar bacteria. Although norovirus isn’t exclusive to cruise ships and vacation destinations, it is a concern to keep in mind when you’re preparing for your next trip or convention. Norovirus is an infection that induces a sudden onset of vomiting and diarrhea and is highly contagious, as it spreads rapidly through close contact with an infected person.

Here are some helpful tips to prevent catching norovirus, according to the CDC:

Wash Fruits and Vegetables Thoroughly and Cook Seafood Thoroughly it’s important to be aware that noroviruses are very resilient, they can survive temperatures as high as 140F

When You are Sick DO NOT Prepare Food for Others, or Care For Others Who Are also Sickeven if you are feeling better, the truth is that you can still spread norovirus for up to two days after your symptoms have faded.

Clean and Disinfect Contaminated Surfaces it is suggested that you use a chlorine bleach with a concentration of 1,000 to 5,000 ppm (5-25 Tablespoons of bleach to one gallon of water) when washing contaminated surfaces.

Wash Laundry Thoroughly handle soiled items carefully and with rubber gloves, you should wash all soiled laundry at the maximum available cycle length and then machine dry them.

What is a Hydrobiotic™?

When you make new things, you get to make up new words- so that’s what we did! Dr. Kerri Miller created a mighty combination of Clinical Strength Hydration®, and a multi strain pre and probiotic blend containing a special combination of 14 different probiotics and one prebiotic (the food probiotics require in order to flourish). When you look at the various keys to recovery, you’ll see that very high up on the list sit both hydration and intestinal health. Alongside these two vital components of recovery, you’ll also see adequate rest, a healthy diet, exercise, and a positive mindset listed.
hydro

Dr. Miller saw a missing piece in our healthcare system after working in it for over 20 years. We weren’t providing adequate means for our patients to stay hydrated and improve their intestinal health in an easy and accessible way, so she did something about it! She began her journey to create a solution, the first oral Hydrobiotic™. The first and foremost portion of this equation is “Hydro”, which represents the Clinical Strength Hydration® formula found in re:iimmune®. It is the first sugar free hydration pack made for rapid hydration needs. The “biotic” in Hydrobiotic™ stands for, you guessed it, probiotics! Not only did Dr. Miller witness her patients struggling to stay hydrated, but many medicines given in critical situations such as cancer, surgery and chronic illness, take costly tolls on your digestive health.

The pre and probiotic blend in re:iimmune® was especially formulated to promote restoration of the beneficial gut flora (good bacteria) that keep your digestive system balanced and functioning properly. L-Glutamine is an amino acid found in re:iimmune® that has more than one purpose, not only is it a co-transporter that helps your cells absorb hydration quicker, but it also helps rebuild healthy tissue in your intestinal wall. The ginger extract found in re:iimmune® boosts immunity, aids in digestive health and also reduces nausea. In cases of chemotherapy patients, antibiotic use and pregnancy, nausea is a common symptom and ginger is a safe solution. As you see, the Hydrobiotic™ formula in re:iimmune® represents it’s core combination of both hydration and probiotic supplementation, but the moving parts that make re:iimmune® the best way to get better, better™ are vast!

heat stroke, heat related illnesses, hydration

Dehydration plays a huge part in leading to a heat related illness. Sweat is our body’s way of cooling itself down and when your hydration levels fall, your body no longer has the ability to cool itself down by producing sweat causing your temperature to rise to a dangerous level and leaving you in danger of heat stroke. Some other factors that play a part in your risk for heat stroke are pre existing conditions such as heart, lung or kidney disease, obesity or being underweight, and diabetes. Age also plays a part in your risk for heat related illness, infants and children under 4, as well as adults over 65 may be even more susceptible.

Prepare yourself this summer when you know you’re going to be exposed to high temperatures for extended amounts of time. The Clinical Strength Hydration formula in re:iimmune® is perfect for on the go summer fun since each serving is individually packaged in sachets that can be mixed with a bottle of ice cold water anywhere, and at any time. The L-Glutamine in re:iimmune® works as a co-transporter by pulling hydration directly into your cells and providing rapid rehydration. Make sure to pack extra re:iimmune® into your picnic basket or lake bag before you head out this weekend, and feel better, better™!

How Hydration and Immune Strength Will Effect Your Surgery

Surgery, recover faster, get better, better

For the most part we are all familiar with terms relating to our immune system, whether it be in reference to a weak immune system failing to protect you from disease, or vitamin C having been related to as our most basic form of immune boosting power, but on what level do we take our immune system seriously for its complex and extraordinary design?

In September 2014 the New York Times released an article linking the state of a person’s immune system directly to their ability to recover from invasive surgery- via a study performed on patients having hip replacement surgery. They were able to analyze the patterns of proteins in their blood that would indicate signals of immune strength outside of what we would consider a generalized clean bill of health, those with the stronger immune signals recovered light years ahead of those with compromised signals.

One of our goals with re:iimmune® is to take people from all around the world and provide them with a completely new level of immunity awareness. With re:iimmune’s® calculated blend of pre and probiotics, every time you drink a serving, you are feeding the core of your immune system the very fuel it needs to  begin absorbing  the nutrients and vitamins your body requires in order to recover from something as serious as invasive surgery.

re:iimmune® also offers clinical strength hydration that aids in preparing your cells, both before and after surgery. Without proper hydration, your body will experience poor oxygen perfusion, essential nutrients will not be delivered to the wound, and your body’s drainage system will not function efficiently. If you fail to properly hydrate your body while it is working to heal itself, you will lose moisture to the wound and the epithelial cells that work to surround the repaired tissue, will not be able to cover the wound at a healthy rate, leaving it open to infection and a slower healing time.

As a whole, it is vitally important to take our guts seriously, and I’m not just talking about that gut feeling you get telling you to make the right choice, but our literal gut, the one that dictates the health and healing properties of our entire body. It takes G.U.T.S. to get well!

Shake it Off!

Why Wednesday

lezley_Dhonau“After a 4 month run of colds, flu, stomach ache and sickness- I felt unable to shake off the last of it each time to be able to fully recover. I then got hit with oral thrush which really told me my guts were not in a good way and I suspected I was chronically dehydrated too. With just the first few mouthfuls of re:iimmune I feel uplifted and more energized. It’s like drinking a fresh coconut…you know it is good – it feels like it is instantly boosting your health!  I changed the food I eat to clean out my system, but the re:iimmune has been a key part of recovering fully and resetting my gut to a healthier state, and no cramping. I am passionate about only putting natural foods in my body and re:iimmune fits this need for me. It is now a firm addition to my medical kit.” -L. Dhonau
Those first few hints of a cold or flu normally send you running for the medicine cabinet with determination. You tell yourself “I will not let this slow me down!” If you begin to fight it early on, you just might be fortunate enough to kick the infection before it’s got you stuck to your bed for a week or so. Although, when an infection does take up roots, it may send you on a downward spiral that can last weeks, or months before you fully recover. When you eventually do recover, you are often left with a compromised immune system, and the after effects that most common symptom relievers leave behind. Chronic illness patients can attest to the fact that feeling ill for long periods of time can feel discouraging, but don’t give up. After you’ve conquered an illness, it’s important to remember that your immune system has taken a hit and will be left more vulnerable to further infection even after your symptoms have cleared up.
The illness recovery formula in re:iimmune® contains just what your body needs in order to shake off an infection, or infections. Hydration is a key component to your body’s ability to create healthy cells and a strong immune system. Often times, when you’re experiencing cold and flu symptoms, drinking fluids is easier said than done, and your hydration levels drop as a result. The ginger root in re:iimmune® helps to soothe an upset stomach as the Clinical Strength Hydration® Formula, and multi strain pre and probiotic blend, get to balancing out your body’s hydration and intestinal immune support needs. Since re:iimmune® is sugar free, and doesn’t contain toxic coloring agents, your body won’t have to spend it’s energy figuring out what to protect itself against and what to use to heal itself. Since nearly 70% of your body’s immune system is located in  your intestines, our intestinal immune support formula boosts the very core of your immune system while helping you get back up on your feet.
Take a tip from our friend in the U.K.- keep re:iimmune® as a firm addition to your medical kit, and get better, better™!

Take Your Medication

If you’re anything like me, you become a little leery when you’re prescribed a new medication. What are the side effects, and the long term consequences of this medication? Are these consequences worth the foreseeable benefits? Is it even the right medication for your unique condition? Is it worth the financial cost, or is it covered by your insurance? These are all common questions, especially for those of us who aren’t use to taking prescription medications on a regular basis.

There is a lot that goes into making sure you get the most out of your prescribed medication. First, and most obviously, getting your prescription actually filled is step one, taking your medication on time, and then making sure you have a good understanding of the directions you’ve been given. It’s important to ask your healthcare provider the correct questions and honestly voice your reasons for hesitation. Often times when we choose to take our medication choices into our own hands without consulting our doctor, we wind up adding greater complications to our illness and in turn, create for ourselves a lower quality of life.

As intimidating as a new medication can appear, it’s vital that you communicate with your health care provider, and do everything you can to reach a mutual agreement on a plan that works both for your lifestyle and your condition, which supports medication adherence. The statistics speak for themselves, medication non-adherence has been found to lead to nearly 20% of preventable adverse drug events in the community setting, and 25% of premature nursing home admissions. Not only that, but it can easily lead to the progression of diseases that would otherwise be preventable, extra doctors visits, and the possibility of premature death.

If you don’t know where to start, or how to keep yourself on track with your medication, here are a few tips from us to you:

Organize– Pick up a pill organizer from your local pharmacy to eliminate any missed or doubled doses.

organize your medication

Ask– Make sure you are taking the best medication for you by doing research on your own, and then taking any questions you have to your trusted physician.

consult your doctor about your medication

Record– If you feel like you are experiencing adverse reactions or side effects to your new medication, write them down as they come up so that you can accurately consult your doctor.

record your medication

Remind– Set a reminder on your phone or clock to take your medication at the designated time each day.

set reminders to take your medication

Accountability– Talk about your medication use with the people closest to you. Let your significant other, your care giver, or your house mates know about your medication and ask someone you trust to check in with you regularly.

re:iimmune®– Ultimately, most medications do in fact take some type of toll on your body’s hydration and intestinal health. Make sure you pair a daily dose of re:iimmune® with your new medication to help ease any possible side effects. Between the ginger for nausea reduction, zinc for immune boosting strength, pre and probiotic blend for intestinal health, and the Clinical Strength hydration formula, you’re sure to feel better, better!

Tried and True Health Tips to Get Better, Better!

You may not realize it, but your body has an amazing ability to heal itself after a serious injury or illness. Although medicine has come a long way, and should not be takin for granted, it’s important to recognize and take responsibility for our part in recovery. If you are recovering from an illness, a severe injury or just trying to maintain a healthy immune system, it would be in your best interest to observe these health truths.

  • Food is Medicine: Most of us have felt that swell of pride wheneat for health, stay healthy with re:iimmune we reach around the box of donuts and grab a piece of fruit instead, but that momentary feeling of elation often fades by dinner time as we find ourselves reaching for that second helping of buttery mashed potatoes, or a heaping pile of cheesy pasta. Hungry yet? The truth is, our brains react to food with the same addictive stimulation as it would with any other drug. It doesn’t help that portions are larger than ever, and that processed, feel good treats are more accessible than they have ever been. On top of the temptation to indulge, is the confusion; with every diet fad in the book being thrown around at us from all angles. It can become overwhelming to decipher what approach to take when it comes to a healthy diet. Our mantra? Keep it simple. Say no to carb heavy, processed foods that will drain your energy and leave you feeling lethargic. Say yes to whole fruits and vegetables and lean proteins, and most importantly, enjoy the food you eat! Branch out with some new recipes that abide by these principles, but still leave your mouth watering.

sleep for health, stay healthy with re:iimmune, health tips

  • Sleep Offers So Much More Than Beauty: Your body can cope without food for about a month, without water for up to a week, but sleep? Your body will start shutting down after 48 hours of sleep deprivation. http://www.everydayhealth.com/conditions/what-happens-when-you-dont-sleep-days/ Sleep benefits every aspect of our health, both physically and emotionally, from your heart health, mental stability, and weight control. So go ahead, hit that snooze button one more time, skip that last episode on Netflix, and hit the sack an extra hour early- your body will thank you!

  • Exercise Your Way to Health: Get moving! Culturally we tend to complicate this concept, but the simple truth is this; move more. That’s it! It doesn’t take expensive gym memberships, hours of intense weight lifting, or fancy gadgets to “exercise”. Find what works best for you, your budget, and your lifestyle. For me, it’s as simple as taking my dog on a 30-minute walk, or heading to the YMCA for a group yoga class. It gets your blood flowing while simultaneously moving toxins out of your body, and pumping endorphins back through your system. Maybe you’d be more comfortable bicycling through nature, tuning into your favorite in home work out routine, or joining a kick boxing club. However you choose to make exercise your own, own it! The benefits to your health are endless.

Avoid The Travel Bug

Why Wednesday

“My husband BlBekah_Abiatti2ake and I were on our honeymoon in Mexico when re:iimmune saved us. We woke up early to head back to Missouri, and we both felt a little off but not sick. We didn’t think much of it since we had just spent a week in Mexico, and were eating different foods than our bodies were use to. When we arrived at the Atlanta airport for our layover, we attempted to get something to eat. We couldn’t stomach anything! Luckily I had two re:iimmune packets left! It was the only thing we could keep down and it completely helped soothe our stomachs. I was so worried our last plane home was going to be miserable (or that we wouldn’t be able to get on the plane) but re:iimmune got us through it! Now, any time my stomach is upset or my body is just feeling down, I always drink re:iimmune!” -Bekah

It’s that time of year again! Sand, sun, cruises, lake weekends, hiking trips and airline flights taking you to your favorite destinations. Most of us look Bekah_Abiattiforward to longer days, warmer weather, family vacations and romantic honeymoon getaways. If you’re anything like me (or like our organized teacher friend, Bekah) you start making your packing list a week before it’s time to hit the road. You pack and repack, second guess your apparel decisions a hundred times, and then finally settle into something comfy and set off for paradise. Through crowded airports, new environments, disrupted sleep patterns, and unfamiliar foods- your body doesn’t always get the same relief you might feel on vacation. The last thing you want to happen when you’re far from home is to deal with the effects of a run down immune system.

No one wants to get up and climb over 3 people, 42 times in one flight, just to use a tiny, uncomfortable airplane commode, or pull off the road at every rest stop in sight when you’re hurrying to your awaited location. We normally wind up drinking less fluids as a result, causing our bodies hydration levels to plummet and in turn, your body takes step one towards an upset immune function. The next time you start your packing list, stick re:iimmune® at the very top. With it’s special formulation of Clinical Strength Hydration® you will be able to maintain optimal hydration levels without running to the restroom every 20 minutes. With it’s blend of pre and probiotics, re:iimmune® fights hard against all the upsets traveling  introduces to your digestive system by reintroducing the good bacteria your stomach needs to remain healthy. When you drink a packet of re:iimmune®, you also receive a generous dose of ginger, which is known for aiding in digestion and soothing nausea- as well as a helping of zinc to give you’re immune system an extra “oomph“. Don’t let anything get in the way of your vacation this summer including the travel bug, pack re:iimmune and get better, better!
